Primary Prevention: Reducing exposure to risk factors associated with MS. By identifying these factors early, we can take proactive steps to prevent the onset of the disease.
Secondary Prevention: Delay or prevent the progression of MS to its next stages. Early intervention is key, and global collaboration will help us achieve better outcomes for those living with or at risk of developing MS.
Tertiary Prevention: Rehabilitation, symptom management, and lifestyle interventions to improve quality of life.
We’re thrilled to host this landmark event in Sydney in partnership with The University of Sydney’s Brain and Mind Centre, where we’ll celebrate achievements, share cutting-edge research, and our new work in collaboration with MS Canada. Whether you’re a researcher, clinician, advocate, or someone impacted by MS, we look forward to welcoming you to the Frontiers in MS Research Symposium.
The symposium is designed to promote the exchange of scientific thought, break down barriers to MS research in Australia, and to provide research updates to the MS community.
The Frontiers in MS Research Symposium is an invaluable opportunity for clinicians, allied health professionals, researchers and the MS community to come together to access global innovation and insights, and to network.
MS Australia’s inaugural symposium, held in partnership with The University of Sydney’s Brain and Mind Centre, will be dedicated to advancing our collective commitment to the Pathways to Cures research strategy.
This strategy includes aims to prevent MS at both a primary (reduce exposure to risk factors) and secondary level (delay/prevent progression to the next stage). The goal is to identify MS at the earliest stages to intervene earlier and improve outcomes for people living with or likely to develop MS.
Alongside this, tertiary prevention is crucial for enhancing the lives of those living with MS, encompassing rehabilitation, symptom management, and lifestyle interventions to improve quality of life.
The symposium will feature expert presentations, a panel discussion and networking opportunities, and will serve as a collaborative platform, allowing researchers and individuals with lived experience to actively contribute to research questions and outcomes.
No, the presentations at the symposium are by invitation only, and there is no abstract submission process as is undertaken for the MS Progress in MS Research Conference held biennially.
The Frontiers in MS Research Symposium is being held Friday, 29 November in Case Study Lecture Theatre 308 and 309-VR, Susan Wakil Health Building, The University of Sydney.
